Time for everything…

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:

a time to be born and a time to die,

a time to plant and a time to uproot,

a time to kill and a time to heal,

a time to tear down and a time to build,

a time to weep and a time to laugh,

a time to mourn and a time to dance,

a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,

a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,

a time to search and a time to give up,

a time to keep and a time to throw away,

a time to tear and a time to mend,

a time to be silent and a time to speak,

a time to love and a time to hate,

a time for war and a time for peace.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8.

This has always been one of my favorite bible verses. Growing up, my parents would read it often as it is something we all need to remember. Life lessons are taught on the farm every day, especially learning at a young age that every animal has a job on the farm. From the cattle, pigs and sheep that provide us meat to the chickens that provide us eggs, the dog that helps hunt phesants, ducks and geese and the cats who catch mice and rats, every animal had a job on the farm. I remember learning these lessons when I was little, and my dad explaining them to me. It has taught me now to respect these animals, which provide us food and sustenance so we can live, and to treat them well because they will provide our living. We want to make sure they are well taken care of because they help us make a living.

That being said, this morning we took our pig, to the meat market. We have been raising him since late April, and he now finally was at a good weight for us to send him to market. He will provide our family and friends with porkchops, sausage, ham, bacon and more that we can use throughout the year to keep us fed. Although it wasn’t easy to see him go, we must realize that there is a a time for everything, just as the verse said above. We have used it as a teaching moment for our nieces and nephews and they have learned a life lesson as well, and how the world goes round, every single day.

We are all here for a purpose in this life, and I firmly believe we are here to provide the healthiest, safest and best food we can for the world.
